HiPerGator OS Upgrades starting: HWGUI to Migrate First on Monday, July 31
Over the next few months UFIT Research Computing will be migrating the HiPerGator cluster operating system from Red Hat 7 to Red Hat 8. This update will enhance security, provide modern OS capabilities, and enable the latest versions of component drivers, including the latest NVIDIA drivers (R535) and CUDA 12.2. For the most part, users will not notice the changes, though if you compile your own applications, you may need to recompile to run on RHEL8.8.
On Monday, July 31, 2023, at 8am, we will begin the process by upgrading the servers in the hardware GUI partition. OnDemand applications may look slightly different because of this upgrade due to theming changes in the upgraded software.
We will continue to notify users as more components of HiPerGator are migrated. Please keep an eye on these emails and our website for updates. Over time, more and more of the cluster will be running RHEL8 and the RHEL7 portions will shrink.
